Neck tightness seems to be a very common problem. A hectic day and a sleepless night might be the obvious reason for the stiff neck the next day or a hard pillow would be the obvious culprit for the neck spasm. But there is a lot to look for when your neck pain stays with you for more than a period of six weeks.

Some of the signs that indicate that your neck tightness needs more attention. Following are the cause of neck pain

1. Numbness in legs
Neck pain causes weakness of arms and legs. A tingling weakness in shoulders could be accompanied with fatigue and loss of concentration.
It is a feeling of discomfort along your arms and runs through your legs. This radiating pain can hamper your personal and work life.
2. Lack of bowel and bladder control
Stiff neck can lead to poor control over bowel and bladder. The two might seem unconnected but in reality a stiff neck leads to certain problems. This is a sign that comes with a severe injury in neck and spine.
3. Stiff neck
You might feel that your neck has jammed in a position. Also, you are not able to move it to the sideways. This lack of movement and flexibility can be a symptom of an underlying injury. Recall if you recently had an accident or a fall.
4. Fever
Fever or chills could be a result of a neck pain. It indicates that your neck tissues are injured. There is some internal activity going on to combat the injury or any infection.
5. Headache
Headaches are a common byproduct of neck stiffness. This is termed as the tension headache. Inflammation in the nerves of the neck or swelling of muscles is the real cause behind all these interrelated issues.
Your head may feel wrapped up in a band. It is a dull pain usually at the back of the head or on one side.
6. Unintended weight loss
Aren’t you dieting but losing weight? This could be because of your neck tightness. It is a very crucial sign that your neck stiffness is affecting your body in a bad way.
7. Vomiting and nausea
You may also feel like vomiting or indigestion. Your stiff neck could be doing all damage to your body. A loss of appetite or an uneasiness due to indigestion are some things to be checked and conveyed to the doctor.

There are a number of factors that lead to a tight and stiff neck. Once we get to the root cause, we can take steps to repair the damaged tissues of the neck.
Our back and neck are the most vulnerable parts of the body. They are the support system of the body. They deserve good care and adequate nourishment for our well being.
So keep your neck and back in a healthy condition by exercising regularly and enough water to avoid spasms. A good night sleep and a healthy diet would be a sweet fruit to your support system.
